Located near the confluence of Pittsburgh’s three rivers, Confluence is Pittsburgh’s longest-running literary conference with a focus on science fiction, fantasy and horror in literature, art and music.
Award-winning authors, editors, artists and songwriters gather for three full days, offering a wide variety of activities including; writing workshops, panel presentations, music concerts, science programming, an art show, art demos, poetry readings, a dealers room and Saturday evening entertainment.
Confluence offers attendees the unique opportunity to meet and chat with the writers, artists and musicians who are creating the SF/F/H culture today.
History of Confluence
Confluence began on Sept 17, 1988 as a cooperative effort between the University of Pittsburgh science fiction club and the members of Parsec. The event started out as a one-day conference quickly grew into the 3-day event it is now. Many volunteers have worked long hours over the years to make Confluence an outstanding and trend-setting event.
The first three or four conventions were called “The nth Annual Pittsburgh Science Fiction Conference.” By the fourth or fifth iteration, the name “Confluence” had been adopted.
Confluence is one of the four standing committees and a program of the Parsec Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization.
It is the mission of Parsec to promote awareness of the richness of speculative fiction as literature, art and music; further general education in the sciences and arts, support contribution, both scientific and artistic, to society and to espouse the enjoyment of speculative fiction as literature, art and music with others.
