Getting Around the 2026 Parkway East Closure:

If you take the Pennsylvania Turnpike and the Parkway East through Pittsburgh to get to Confluence, there will be a major closure of the Parkway from July 19th – August 3rd.

You have several options to get to the Sheraton depending on the traffic. Especially if you’re driving in from the east, keep your GPS on as it should let you know how bad the backups are.

Information on the official detour:

https://www.pa.gov/content/dam/copapwp-pagov/en/penndot/documents/projects-near-you/district-11-projects/commercial-street-bridge/comm-st-faq-12-3-25.pdf

If you’re coming in from the east and expect to be at the hotel between 2 and 3, or after 8pm the PennDOT official detour should be okay:

If you plan to be at the hotel later in the afternoon, we suggest you stay on the turnpike to exit 28, then take 79 south to exit 65 and travel west towards Sewickley.

Take a left at the Sewickley Bridge and follow this map:

The traffic on Sunday should be better, but note that there’s a Pirates game at 1:35, so plan to leave between 1:30 and 4pm to avoid most game traffic.

No matter how bad the traffic is, we do not recommend using Route 28 as it can be particularly challenging.
